SELS Weekly 8/24-8/28

Hope everyone had an amazing summer! We are very excited to begin our 2026-27 school year. Please be sure you read Principal Melanie Cooke's Back to School Info post and attend Back to School Night on Thursday, August 27, so that you have all the information you need to make this year a success.

We encourage everyone to visit and bookmark our website! There you will find all of the latest news, our calendar, the Family Handbook and info about our communication platform: ParentSquare. You will also get the answers to most of your questions on the website, so please be sure to check it out!

If you plan to volunteer or chaperone please be sure to fill out all appropriate forms that were sent out last Friday. *New forms are required each year.*

If your child requires medication at school be sure to read the Medication Release Forms post and get all signed paperwork submitted to the office, along with the medication, on the first day of school.

Please continue to read all school posts from Melanie Cooke and your Crew Leaders, as well as messages from TTUSD. We wish you all a safe, healthy and wonderful year!

Monday: Kindergarten Meet & Greet ~ 5:30-6:30pm.

Wednesday: First Day of School! Middle School is 7:30am-2:20pm; Elementary is 9:10am-3:20pm. 

Thursday: Back to School Night! This is a MANDATORY event - we need all parents/guardians to attend as we will be explaining in-depth our program, policies, classroom procedures, and how you can help. Parents/guardians only. There will be no childcare provided. 5:00-6:00pm for grades 1/2,4/5,8 and 6:15-7:15pm for grades K,3,6,7. New Families: Plan to attend a Kindergarten and New Family Orientation for all-school info and Q&A. This will be incorporated into Back to School Night beginning at 5:00 pm in Ms. Capellan’s classroom, M-11. 

9/1: All School Assembly/HOWs 100 presentation ~ 9:15am in the SELS Gym.

9/3: PTC Kickoff Event ~ 6:00pm. Upstairs at FiftyFifty Brewing Co. Curious how you can get involved? Join us at our kickoff event to learn about all the ways to contribute this year.

9/7: Labor Day ~ No School

9/9: Summit Swirl Fundraiser ~Join us at Summit Swirl for a scoop (or two!) in support of SELS. This locally owned frozen yogurt shop is a Truckee favorite, and every purchase that day helps fund programs for our students.

9/14: Picture Day! Be sure to be at school & bring your form (will be sent home the previous week). SELS Board Meeting ~ 5:30pm in Conference Room A at the District Office.

9/15: Community Crew ~ 9:15 am.

9/16: Minimum Day ~ Middle school release 11:45 am; Elementary school release 1:00 pm.

9/17: PTC Meeting ~ 5:30pm at Tahoe Donner Lodge. All are welcome! Come meet the crew, hear what's planned for the year, and share your ideas.

If you were accepted at SELS in the Free & Reduced Lottery, you need to be signed up for the Free and Reduced Meals program before the start of school. It is mandatory to sign up for the Free & Reduced Meals program, even if lunches are free for all or if you do not plan to use the services, as per our Lottery Policy. We also realize that circumstances may change for families. If you feel that you might qualify for the Free and Reduced Meals program, we encourage you to apply even if you do not plan to use the services, as this helps our funding per student.

Please note that you must fill out a new application each year in order to qualify. If you have questions about the application process, you will need to contact the Food Services Dept directly.
